Bare Dirt Backyard Gets a Full Landscape Build with Sod and Fountain

A lot of new construction homes get handed over with a blank slate backyard - just bare dirt and stakes in the ground. That's exactly what we started with here. No grass, no plants, no irrigation. Nothing. And that's honestly one of our favorite starting points, because we get to build everything the right way from the ground up.

We laid out a full sprinkler system before anything else went in. That's the part most people don't think about until it's too late. Getting irrigation planned and installed first means the sod, the trees, and the plants all get covered properly - no dry spots, no guesswork. The curbing went in to define the lawn area from the rock beds, giving the whole yard a clean, intentional look that's also a lot easier to maintain long-term.

Once the irrigation was dialed in, we laid fresh sod across the lawn area, planted a shade tree with its own dedicated mulch bed, and added a row of arborvitae along the back fence for privacy. Smaller shrubs and flowering plants filled out the rock beds along the perimeter. Every plant was chosen to work together - both visually and practically.

The piece that really pulls this yard together is the corten steel water fountain. It's a bold, modern feature that adds movement and sound to the space. Water cascades down from the top into the trough below, and it fits right into the surrounding planting bed. It's the kind of detail that turns a nice yard into a backyard you actually want to spend time in.

What started as a dusty patch of nothing is now a fully usable outdoor space - with grass, greenery, privacy, and a focal point that sets it apart. Every piece of this build serves a purpose, and it all works together without adding a bunch of extra maintenance headaches.
